![]() ![]() Audi reveals plans to expand plant near Győr
Audi produced 38,541 cars and 1.65 million engines last year
![]() German car manufacturer Audi decided to expand its Győr plant in September 2010 and to raise output to 125,000 vehicles a year from 2013. The expansion could create an extra 1,800 jobs and boost the local and regional economies. Paperwork filed by the car giant shows that the group has plans to expand again between 2017-2018 to raise production from the Győr plant to around 1000 vehicles a day. Audi spokesperson Peter Lore says that the 2013 expansion will raise production to 500 cars a day, and that while nothing is set in stone after that day, depending on market conditions the production output could be raised after that. The first phase of expansion could create up to 15,000 jobs both directly and indirectly, as suppliers and partners will also have to ramp up production to keep up with the increased demand. From 2013, the Györ plant will produce the TT roadster, A3 cabriolet and another version of the A3. The news from Audi comes at a good time for carworkers in the nation. Cars will start rolling off Daimler AG's new Hungarian plant in Kecskemét from 2012. |
