Iberdrola has been a serious player in the Hungarian renewable energy market for a long time now.  The company is the number one energy group in Spain and the fourth largest utility company in the world by market cap.

The company has purchased a 36MW Scott plant on the edge of Nagyigmánd and two plants in Ikervár.  All three farms are equipped with Gamesa G90 wind turbines.

This isn't the company's first foray into the Hungarian energy market, as it already controlled a 50MW wind farm in Kisigmánd that is the largest wind energy farm in the country and which lies only a few miles away from the new Nagyigmánd facility.

Iberdrola has been making moves to gain a strong foothold in central and eastern European energy markets.  Besides the wind farms in Hungary, the company also has facilities in Poland.  It has further projects in the planning stages in Romania, Estonia and Bulgaria.

Iberdrola now controls five wind farms in Hungary, which have a combined capacity of 158MW.
