Sándor Fazekas, Minister for Rural Development, has ordered a mandatory check for farms that could be contaminated by dioxin.  This comes on the heels of the dioxin crisis that has caused so many problems in Germany and is a move to ensure that consumer confidence remains high in Hungarian pork and egg products.

Fazekas said that there will also be a restriction on German pork, both fresh and frozen, as well as products that use pork.  This restriction will remain in effect until 28 February.

According to the Ministry, while earlier studies have shown that Hungary does not have any eggs or meat which have been contaminated with dioxin, the nationwide check has been introduced in accordance with the Livestock and Meat Product resolution, or VHT.
