According to plans made public by the M-KÉT Consortium (in Hungarian, M-2), the initial estimate of 1.26 billion forints has been reduced for the new stretch of M2 road stretching from Budapest to Vác, a town north of the capital.

Currently the 19.25 km stretch of road has only one lane travelling in both directions. These lanes will be complemented by an extra lane in both directions, which will turn this modest road into another segment of Hungary's slowly growing network of highways.

There will also be a hard shoulder in both directions of travel.  Motorists who like driving on the autobahn will be disappointed to learn that the planned speed limit in both directions will be only 100 kpm (approximately 60 mph).

Besides enlarging the stretch of road, the construction also includes two new intersections that will allow motorists to join, or leave, the highway.  As things stand, there are already four larger intersections along that stretch of road but the two planned will connect the new stretch of the M2 to the towns of Dunakeszi and Sződliget.
