If you happen to be a fan of sausage, pork, and anything to do with the mangalica pig (also known as the mangalitsa or mangalitza), then there is only one destination that should be jumping out at you - Vajdahunyad Castle just behind Heroes' Square in Budapest.

The mangalica is a pig that is vey popular in Hungary and is bred for its delicious meat.  The pigs have curly hair and are born with stripes, just like the wild boar from which they are directly descended.  It is considered a speciality in the country, and since 2007 there has been a festival held in there honour in Budapest.

For 2011 the event will once again be held in the Vajdahunyad Castle, where the air will be tinged with the smell of mangalica sausage, and bacon.

Not only will visitors be able to taste managlica products from large producers like Pick, Olmos és Tóth, Szilváshús, Balatoni and Tarnamenti, but they will also be able to see what smaller suppliers can do with the curly hog.

There is no price to get into the festival, which runs from 4-6 February.  For more details, visit the festival's website.
