After a very uncomfortable weekend for theatre-goers in one Budapest theatre, the József Katona Theatre once again has heating as of Monday morning.  The heating had been turned off to allow the Budapest Gas Company to replace a chimney that had been destroyed by an earlier fire.

According to experts, the gas had to be turned off completely after high levels of carbon monoxide were measured in the area.  The emergency work was carried out over the weekend to reduce the disruption the lack of heating would cause.

The audience at the József Katona Theatre arrived on Friday for the premiere of the play "Moliere the mysanthrope," and although the central heating in the theatre had been off for hours, careful placement of several space heaters ensured that the audience didn't have to sit through the peroformace wearing overcoats.

In an effort to make things more comfortable for the spectators, the cast and staff of the theatre distributed blankets before curtain up.
