Mr Tibor Navracsics, head of the parliamentary group of the Fidesz-KDNP political party and Deputy Prime Minister, would like to see changes made to the current vacation day policy for members of Parliament. As it stands, Ministers are allowed 40 days (8 weeks) each year for holidays.  Navracsics would like this reduced to 20 days, or 4 weeks.

If a Minister does not use up all vacation days, then the Minister is allowed to be reimbursed for those days that remained unused.  For some, this has amounted to several million forints each year.

Navracsics stressed that he would like to see this reimbursement abolished, saying "we have seen several ministers take advantage of this loop hole to receive a large amount in return for not taking vacation days."

Currently, Ministers are allowed 40 days off each year.  In a new system, Navracsics would reduce this to 20, which is closer to the number of days off allowed for Department heads.

Mr Navracsics says that he has spoken already with Ministers about these wholesale changes and that, so far, none have complained.
