The former Secretary for Agriculture had been in detention since 4 November
![]() After spending almost three months in detention, former Secretary for Agriculture Mr Fülöp Benedek is once again a free man. He had been charged with forging documents and embezzlement. The Prosecutor's Office asked that Benedek be placed under house arrest as the Office fears that he is a flight risk, but the Court ruled against it. The Municipal Court's decision is final. The court had extended Benedek's detention on 8 December, since which the Court has ruled that Benedek cooperated with authorities Police first spoke with Benedek on 4 November after financial irregularities were uncovered that were connected to his name. The Budapest Prosecutor's Office said that he was arrested for, "causing significant financial losses, embezzlement, and the forgery of private documents." |
