Repülős Gizi, otherwise known as Flying Gizi, is arrested in connection with a burglary
![]() One of Hungary's best-known criminals is once again under arrest, this time on suspicion of stealing 14,500 forints during a burglary in Bicske. What sets Ms Gizella Bodnár apart from other thieves is that she is an 84-year-old woman whose criminal record stretches back to World War II. The Fejer County Police say that Bodnár was arrested at the Bicske Train Station as she tried to make good her escape. After searching Bodnár, Police discovered a wallet and the money that had been reported stolen only hours earlier from a house in Bicske. In her defence, Bodnár claimed to have found the money in a bin after she threw a tissue away. Bodnár got her nickname, Repülős Gizi or Flying Gizi, becuase she often used domestic airline flights to go to and from possible marks during an earlier criminal period. Her arrest at the train station is less a sign-of-the-times but rather because pernsioners can travel for free on the Hungarian rail network. The 84-year old Repülős Gizi has spent more than 18 years in prison and has a rapsheet with more than 20 convictions. Bodnár claims that she is unable to stop herself from stealing because she suffers from kleptomania. She puts down her condition to having lived through a bout of meningitis when she was young. |
