Physicist Gabriella Pálla and Engineer József Bokor awarded the Károly Simonyi Prize
The annual award is presented on the 3rd of November, the Feast of Hungarian Science

This year's recipients of the Károly Simonyi Prize are physicist Gabriella Pálla and engineer József Bokor.  Pálla has been a successful researcher for more than half a century and specializes in nuclear and heavy ion physics. 

Bokor was rewarded for his work in the theory and control of high complexity dynamic systems. His research has led to developments and improvements that have been used in the automotive industry as well as in aircraft.

The prizes were awarded at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on the evening of the Feast of Hungarian Science.  Both  Pálla and Bokor were on hand to receive the prize from Dr József Pálinkás, the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The evening's keynote speaker was Hungarian President Pál Schmitt.

The prize is a prestigious one among Hungarian academics and also has the bonus of coming with a three million forint award.

The annual monetary prize was established in 2002 by Charles Simonyi in honour of his father, Károly Charles Simonyi has had a storied career and is best known for developing the user interface for Microsoft Office family of software, work which made him a billionaire.  He has been to space twice, and now devotes a large part of his time to philanthropy.
