The game looked as though it would go into halftime with the score tied 0:0, but in the 39th minute, Zoltán Gera crossed the ball to striker Gergely Rudolf, who managed to take the ball around the Azeri keeper Kamran Ağayev to score.

The tie was sealed in the second half with a superb solo effort from Tamás Hajnal in the 81st minute.  Hajnal capped a solid game in midfield with a wonderful strike when he took the ball across midfield and tried his luck from 25 metres out.  The ball was out of the reach of Ağayev, who could only watch it go past him and into the net.

Hungary has played Azerbaijan five times and leads the series 5-0.
